No more Backward Compatibility Updates Til March/April |
 |

We've been informed today that there are going to be no more Backward Compatibility updates released for the Xbox 360 until March at the earliest. Microsoft's David Reid has stated that the team who do the BC work are on holiday throughout January and will start work on priority titles when they return. But from what it sounds like, there will be only a few more updates released through 2006.
This will come as a disappointment to many new Xbox 360 users, not only because the lack of new 360 titles but also any new plain Xbox titles they may like the look of (Black for example) will not work on their shiny new 360. It is no wonder less Xbox games are being sold now.

Can yo ube more specific about the comment - " From What it sounds like" ? isn't there something MS could post or offer about "roadmap" of what's "up the pipe" and what exactly the high profile titles might be. My point is there should be some way to be definitive about all this, one way or another. Statements like the one above activate my Heresay radar warning sensor. So, qualify it or recant, please.

The "from what it sounds like" was in relation to a comment he said about there being at least one more update released in 2006...thats even mentioned in the latest Edge magazine. So it seems this news story is true

You should retract this article for being liars. This guy David was on Major Nelsons radio show overa month ago and said not to expect the next update till spring, major nelson specifically said March. This is in no way news, and in no way a "stopping" of backwards compatibility updates, nor is it delayed. Congratualtions on romor mongering, I'm sure it drove a lot of traffic.

That's why I kept my Xbox hooked up to my bedroom television. The 360 is on the main TV, but why should I stop buying good games for my original system? If it is fun,I don't care.
Great Site by the way !

#7 - they are not liars, its even stated in the new Edge magazine. They also haven't said they are stopping backward compatibility updates in this article at all, it states that no new update will be out til March.

As someone else here has said - we have not stated that they are stopping backward compatibility, we are stating there are no new updates out until March, thats not a lie, its a fact that is now backed up. We'll have our interview out in a week. Thanks though. We haven't said its a delay, Microsoft stated before launch that all new plain Xbox games would work on the 360 thanks to backward compatibilty update, so go out and buy some brand new games...they won't work on the 360, so if you want to have a go at liars, go to the right people.

"Microsoft stated before launch that all new plain Xbox games would work on the 360 thanks to backward compatibilty update" - Get your facts straight, they never said once that ALL "plain" xbox games would work on the 360.

They stated new titles would be actually, even i've found various quotes on the net today.
"Either way, it's not completely bad news for anyone still intending to pick up a Core Xbox 360 system at launch - Microsoft has stated that developers currently working on current-gen titles have now been invited to include the necessary emulation software on the Xbox discs themselves, meaning that a hard drive won't be necessary to play these games in the future.
But due to limited resources, with Microsoft's emulation experts being assigned to assist developers keen to offer cross-generation compatibility, this will still only apply to key Xbox titles, and only key Xbox titles that have recently gone into development at that."

You do also have to think of a timeline as to WHEN these games went into DEVELOPMENT and WHEN they went in to PRINT. I'm sure it's probably happened already but not too many people are happy when games are pushed back from their said release date. And if the game is just about ready to print or already on its way to print to have to go back and re-code for emulation compatibility only means delays. So while they do say the newer games will be backwards compatible that doesn't mean EVERY RELEASE after the 360 launch. That could very well mean every game that is in the beginning stages of development. There is no clear statement as to which it is applying to.

Yes, MS have made promises that they haven't kept and as for Backward Compatability one man on the xbox help desk claimed that the reason for the delay was that the game developers were refusing to hand over the game codes needed for BC. Didn't MS say that there would be a release every month as I seem to recall something along they lines?
