Windows 98 didnt support compression unless you upgraded from windows 95. Windows me doesnt support compression. If you would have read the setuptup.txt it would mention this fact to you, windows xp does not support win95 compression. If your hard drive was compressed you wouldnt be able to upgrade, but because 1 floppy was setup didnt read it.
