I have run into a problem with a Plextor PX-716a/sa DVD-RW drive . When I try to load a DVD movie , the drive makes a few noises like it is trying to spin up or seek drive info .It tries 3 times then quits and gives me a "Device I/O error" . Different encrypted movies play okay , using WMP , Roxio , Nero etc . . I have 2 different Plextor drives , which have same problem. I have done all of the software/ firmware updates for both machine and drive . I am guessing that it has to do with ARccOS or another type of "bad sector" encryption sceme , but I have another computer running Win2KPro with Identical software ( swapping drives) and the dvds play perfectly .
Could someone with the tech knowledge try to explain what is going on with the drive not being able to spin up for an initial read . All drive utilities are failing to "see " a disc in the drive ,on the xp machine , but have no problems on the Win2K machine . i have tried the various tech suggestions , disable auto play , setting one driver for the drive , etc . and still get the same isssues .
Thanks
