Dear all, A few days ago i started up my pc and recieved the error message: Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM I followed the microsoft help (and my pc booted up fine): http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545 up until the step that asks you to do a system recovery - i tried this but the system restore program stopped responding and the system froze. I reset the pc from the box and when it restarted strange things started happening.... First time it didn't recognise the hard drive, the second time it did but then gave me a blue screen error message: Stop: c0000218 {Registry File Failure} The registry cannot load the hive (file): \SystemRoot\System32\Config\SOFTWARE or its log or alternate I saw that the same microsoft help applied so tried again. Now on reboot - sometimes it recognises the HD and sometimes not. When it does, i get the windows is starting screen with the blue light moving underneath but then it just goes to a blank screen with only the mouse available - i can move the mouse but the screen is blank. I am now totally stuck and can't get it booted. I have so much important stuff on there I am going out of my mind with worry. Please, if you can help - let me know! Thanks so much, Dan Simmonds
