What type of PC and OS are you running? Are the USB ports 2.0 or 1.1? If 1.1, that may be the problem. ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway Performance 700C - P4 1.8gz, 1gig RAM, nVidia 5200; SB Audigy SE; Windows Vista Business, Photoshop CS3, Nikon D200 and D100

Most external HD's should be instantly recognized by WinXP. In checking Seagate's site, no add'l drivers are required. First, I'd suggest checking the drive on another computer to determine if it's a problem with the drive or your computer. If another computer recognizes the drive, then it's your computer. If not, then it's the drive. Also, on your computer, make sure that there aren't any exclamation points next to the USB ports in Device Manager. If there are, this could indicate either the USB port isn't working correctly, or the driver isn't installed correctly. ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway Performance 700C - P4 1.8gz, 1gig RAM, nVidia 5200; SB Audigy SE; Windows Vista Business, Photoshop CS3, Nikon D200 and D100

i had the same issue with my 320 external, what u need to do is once your drive is connected right click on my compuer select manage then on the right of the new window click disk management, you will then c a list on all your drives right click on the 250 and click open or even right click on it and go import drive this should work
