I've just dug out my old desktop running Win98. Before I give it to charity I want to burn all the data and reformat the drive. But I think I put a p@ssword on years ago and I now can't remember what it is. So, can anyone tell me if I can byp@ss the p@ssword? It looks like it's the BIOS p@ssword - it comes up right after prompt that tells me to HIT DEL TO EXIT SETUP. I need to get in and see what data I have on the drive. Also, can anyone tell me how I can hook up the WIn 98 desktop (has no USB - only serial!) to a laptop running Win XP so I can burn the data? Thanks you help. zarbles

If it's a BIOS p@ssword, you may need to check with the computer (if it's a Dell or Gateway) or motherboard mfgr to see how to reset the p@ssword. I did a quick Google on resetting a BIOS p@ssword, and there are a number of sites that may help (I put in resetting a bios p@ssword). One of the first sites was http://www.tech-faq.com/reset-bios-p@ssword.shtml As to transferring data, you probably will need to find a serial to usb cable, or get a serial cable and attach a USB adapter. There are several free utilities that you can do a DOD wipe of your drive. Check Download.com for them. ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway Performance 700C - P4 1.8gz, 1gig RAM, nVidia 5200; SB Audigy SE; Windows Vista Business, Photoshop CS2, Nikon D200 and D100
