The file is probably there, the error just means XP setup cannot read from the hard drive - something is preventing setup from reading the hard drive.
If this is an upgrade cancel and go back to windows win9x and try again - this usually works. When you run XP setup in win9x, make sure you do dynamic update (do you want to download the updated setup files? - yes). There's a fix that sys'es the driver if this happens. This is a very common problem and i dont feel like writing an article on this. Go to support.microsoft.com and search on hal.dll, you'll find the article. It's also on the top10 list of setup issues. -gosh |
