The nimda virus deletes your rich edit file and replace it with another, so when you remove the virus it breaks any apps that rely on it. Richtext is html, so any program that uses html instead of standard text will need a rich edit file. To fix simply use SFC to extract the file. Make sure you're 100% clean otherwise opening outlook will infect you again.
