I had a similar problem and it turned out to be the DHCP server I was connecting to (i.e. it was a problem with the ISP). Depending upon the router, there should be a setting on how often the connection is DHCP is renewed. Set it for the longest period possible. The "test" to see if it is actually the DHCP server is to connect your computer directly to the DSL modem. If it drops the connection, then it's the server. As to other things to do: 1. Make sure the router does have the hardware firewall active 2. Double check all of the other router settings to make sure that it doesn't refresh the connection too often. 3. WinXP's firewall should be an adequate software firewall (especially since your router has - or should have - a hardware firewall). 4. Download and run Spybot 1.4 - make sure you update it. You can also download MS's Defender (their beta spyware) which may catch some stuff that Spybot doesn't. 5. Download and run Advanced Windows Care (free program) to have it scan your system for any other problems ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway Performance 1800 - P4 1.8gz, 512mb RAM, ATi Radeon 8500; SB Live Value; Windows XP Professional, Photoshop CS2, Nikon D2Hs and D100
