Search norton's website on the error you got, obviously this isnt a windows problem. There are known issues with norton 2002 and xp, it's not fully compatible despite what norton says.

Probably something in the master boot record (a drive overlay like ezbios).
Boot from a win98/me bootdisk and type this at a command prompt:
fdisk /mbr (5 times)
Warning: this might erase all your data, backup your data first. Make sure you bios is newest.
Or you could go into recovery console and try command: fixmbr, but its not as good (doesnt do as much).
If you have xp pro on the cd is a tool called diskprobe, you could use this to see whats in the MBR
