A CRC (Cyclic Redudancy Check) is a good indicator that the surface of the HD is damaged. You may want to consider replacing the drive altogether. ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway Performance 1800 - P4 1.8gz, 512mb RAM, ATi Radeon 8500; SB Live Value; Windows XP Professional, Photoshop CS2, Nikon D2Hs and D100

As I noted above, pull out the drive and slave it to the drive of a working computer. Use this to copy all of your data. If you replace the drive (and it sounds like you should), you will have to reinstall WinXP and all of your programs. Yeah..it's a major bummer, but when you get CRC errors, you're left with little recourse. You can try reformatting the drive, but if the surface is damaged, you will continually have problems. ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway Performance 1800 - P4 1.8gz, 512mb RAM, ATi Radeon 8500; SB Live Value; Windows XP Professional, Photoshop CS2, Nikon D2Hs and D100
