All too easy. 1. You stated "After updating the hardware the link was fully opened...I couldn't see her shared files...my mum's computer couldn't see ANY shared files..." In reality, the link between the computers wasn't "fully opened". There may have been some conectivity, but since it wasn't a crossover cable, the two computers couldn't "talk" to each other. 2. A crossover cable is specifically designed to connect one PC direct to another PC (via a NIC) 3.
