That's a good one. If you do a search, is the file on the hard drive? If it's gone what i would do is go into recovery console to extract it. To do this restart the pc with xp cd. Itll say 'press any key to boot from cd' - press any key. It'll then give menu with 3 choices, choose r for repair. Once in recovery console, 2 ways to extract this file.
First, if you copy a file it's auto extracted. I dont know where this file is, but let's say its in windows, you would type:
copy comnt5.in_ c:\windows\comnt5.inf
or
expand comnt5.in_ c:\windows\comnt5.inf
I thikn that would work, im in win98 now so i cannot check my work.
Have you tried system restore? If this doesnt work, use system restore:
start > all programs > accessories > system tools> system restore
If this works/doesnt respond so i can help you more.

Alpo that won't do jack. The problem is the add/remove programs window is corrupt. I would reinstall windows to get whatever file is missing back. Or go to start > run > cmd, and type sfc /scannow, if it finds any missing files restore them.
