ntvdm is the nt virtual machine, used for compatibility for programs that require real mode memory allocation. You could try tshooting dos apps in http://support.microsoft.com/directory/article.asp?ID=KB;EN-US;Q165214 , however that doesnt sound like your issue. Try installing the app in safe mode, so restart press f8, then safe mode.
