CD Error installing Win XP Home Upgrade (Win 98 SE)

Several possibilityes -
1. Your CD-ROM has pooped out (not uncommon). Just replaced a 1 year old DVD ROM on one system
2. The WinXP CD is faulty (doesn't happen too often, but goofs happen in the mfg process) - check for scratches, cracks or dirt/smudges
3. Your system may not be able to handle WinXP. Some older systems (primarily those running the minimum requirements - Pentium 166) have limitations in the BIOS as to hard disk size and such that they can handle (some intel mobo's could only handle up to 8.2 GB hard disks - these mobo's can't handle WinXP).
The fact that the read problem doen't happen in the same spot leads me to think that the issue is with the CD ROM drive.
