| It sounds like the battery that powers your BIOS is dead. Check your manual (or HP's site online) as to which battery to use and how to install it. I'm not familiar with which mobo's HP uses, so I hope they didn't pick up Compaq's bad habit of soldering the battery to the motherboard. The battery looks like an oversized watch battery. It simply slides out for replacement.
