The one and only time my I had similiar problems (slow running programs and CPU constantly running) I had a virus - I reformated connected to the internet and got the virus again. Ended up costing me $150 to take it into the service shop and he found the virus. I think the virus called Ketz or something like that. As I recall I had gotten the virus via an email.
