In try to update norton antivirus the update give an error message "Enable long pathnames" In exploreing win XP I kind of remember seeing this but know I can not remember where. I am hoping someone can help me. Thanks Ray AG4DR

It's a registry key, i forget which. It's in the win98 and xp resource kit. Fsutil might toggle it. D:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>fsutil behavior set Usage : fsutil behavior set <option> <value> <option> <values> disable8dot3 1 | 0 allowextchar 1 | 0 disablelastaccess 1 | 0 quotanotify 1 through 4294967295 seconds mftzone 1 through 4

I did give the correct answer. On my computer i looked at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Filesystem\NTFSdisable8dot3namecreation with a value of "0" Then from a command prompt i typed this: fsutil behavior set disable8dot3 1 And the above registry key changed to a 1. So i gave the correct answer. Try it yourself. -gosh
